Don Sparks

Principal

Mr. Sparks was born and raised in Gallup, New Mexico.  After graduation from Gallup High School he attended NMSU where he earned his Bachelor Degree in Secondary Education with endorsements in Science and Physical Education. 

He went on to teach Science in El Paso, Texas.  He taught Biology and Earth Science for 5 years, and then became the “Activities Director” at MacArthur School in El Paso, Texas.  It was at this time he gained an interest in Administration. 

He pursued his Master’s Degree in Educational Management and Development at NMSU.  After receiving his Master’s he was afforded an opportunity to move to Tucumcari, NM where he held the position of High School Assistant Principal/Athletic Director for 3 years. He was then offered, and accepted the position of Principal at Tucumcari High School. He served in that capacity for 2 years. 

He was then asked to return home to get the Catholic High School started up again, after being closed for a number of years, and he decided to leave Tucumcari to return home and accept this challenge.  He served as Principal at Gallup Catholic High School for 10 years.  He then took a position with Gallup McKinley County Schools as Principal at Gallup Central High School, where he served in that capacity for 10 years. 

In January of 2015 he saw the opportunity to come to Zuni as the High School Principal. He applied for, and was offered the position. He loves the area he calls “home,” and believes all things happen for a reason. He is extremely happy to be serving the Zuni community as the High School Principal. 

He encourages everyone to be involved in our children’s education, and welcomes this opportunity to do everything possible to make Zuni High School the best it can be.
